PrintPrice Platform Architecture

PrintPrice is a Production Intelligence Platform for the global print industry.

The system combines pricing intelligence, PDF preflight analysis, production constraints modeling, and manufacturing network routing to automatically determine the optimal production strategy for any print job.

High-Level Architecture

The platform is composed of several specialized engines:

  1. Book Pricing Engine (BPE)
  2. Preflight Engine
  3. Production Intelligence Layer
  4. Compatibility Engine
  5. Matchmaker Engine
  6. Printer Network

Each component performs a specific role in the decision pipeline.

Core Engines

Book Pricing Engine

The Book Pricing Engine calculates production costs based on:

  • paper
  • signatures
  • printing method
  • binding type
  • printer configuration

It uses deterministic cost models derived from real production data.

Preflight Engine

The Preflight Engine performs deterministic analysis of uploaded PDFs.

It extracts:

  • page count
  • trim size
  • image density
  • color profiles
  • bleed
  • binding feasibility

The goal is to determine whether the document can be manufactured safely.

Production Intelligence

The Production Intelligence layer evaluates the intent of the document.

Examples:

  • paperback novel
  • hardcover photo book
  • saddle stitched booklet
  • catalog
  • magazine

Intent detection allows the system to apply the correct manufacturing constraints.

Compatibility Engine

The Compatibility Engine compares:

  • document properties
  • paper specifications
  • binding requirements
  • machine capabilities

against the available printers in the network.

This produces a compatibility score for each printer.

Matchmaker Engine

The Matchmaker Engine performs final routing.

Each printer receives a weighted score based on:

  • physical compatibility
  • operational constraints
  • economic suitability

The printer with the highest score is selected as the optimal production destination.

Data Sources

The system relies on several structured datasets:

  • printer machine registry
  • paper profiles
  • binding rules
  • pricing matrices
  • production constraints

These datasets form the knowledge base of the platform.

Platform Components

The platform is composed of several deployable components:

Frontend Applications

  • PrintPrice Web Interface
  • Preflight Dashboard

Backend Services

  • Pricing API
  • Preflight API
  • Matchmaker Service

Infrastructure

  • Worker nodes
  • Job queues
  • storage
  • monitoring

Deployment Architecture

The platform runs as a distributed system consisting of:

  • API servers
  • asynchronous workers
  • data stores
  • processing pipelines

The system is designed to scale horizontally as the printer network grows.

Strategic Vision

PrintPrice aims to become the operating system of the print production ecosystem, connecting publishers, designers, and manufacturers through a unified production intelligence platform.
